This biennial event gathers the heads of European Alumni and is an opportunity to meet with other clubs and with Harvard Alumni office staff. Mary Black attended as HC Serbia president and joined other European clubs in this two day event, hosted by the HC of Switzerland.
Highlights included a lunch with James Houghton, chair of the Harvard Presidential Search Committee who gave a frank and insiders view of the selection process for the new president; working meetings looking at new technology for club support and presentations from other clubs highlighting how they work. Mary Black gave a presentation on the HC of Serbia and was also asked to make the summing up remarks at the end of the meeting on behalf of the clubs.
The HC of Serbia was complimented on the following
- An innovative leadership model, where we rotate officers each year in a direct effort to include as many members as possible and grow the club.
- An excellent website, emphasising community and news from members
- Rapid growth in membership and activities
For those interested in reading more, Mary Black's report is attached here (this will be sent in a seperate mail later), together with the slides from the working meetings ( again this has yet to be sent and I will send later).
The Swiss committee did an excellent job with warm hospitality, efficient programming, a great location (the original spa of Dr Bircher-Benner, inventor of muesli) and a social events programme that included top Zurich restaurants, sightseeing and a challenging and controversial modern art tour.
We may consider hosting this meeting for Harvard in future, as Belgrade would be an interesting venue for our sister clubs and Harvard colleagues.
